A number of our volunteers have been with
us on and off for many years as their time allows... Just too
much fun they say.

Now a word about our special casts and crews:
Most of our performers are talented "regular" folks...
students... adults... seniors... who enjoy and believe in our
brand of community theatre and its mission. A few have used Duck
Soup as a stepping stone toward their career as a
"professional." From time to time, it’s fun to see former Duck
Soupers on national television or hear about their cross-country
tours with Minneapolis Children’s Theatre. Some have landed
lengthy roles at the Chanhassen or Guthrie Theatres. We have
often said that our volunteer performers need the "right
stuff"... a balanced blend of talent, compassion, dedication,
discipline, and just plain heart! Once we sign on these folks
through careful screening, that’s just the beginning. Consider
this, first there’s the rehearsal period of five weeks on
average, followed by six to eight weeks of performances (three
to four per week). Since our season runs from September to June,
there are a goodly number of months with potentially bad
weather... heavy snow, ice, and bitter wind chills being our
worst enemies. One hour prior to curtain time, the cast arrives
and unloads the truck and trailer regardless of weather
conditions. It’s now time for setup, the performances, followed
by a social time with patients or residents. Finally,
disassembly and reloading of sets and equipment. Imagine... all
this after attending school or working all day! Night after
night, week after week, it’s no wonder then, why we think our
volunteers are so special. They are! Those who have been
recipients of our performances or sponsors of the Duck Soup
Players over the years, know well the end results of our
efforts, but may not have an in-depth appreciation of the work
that goes into each production. We hope this brief look at one
of the many pieces of the puzzle which comprise the Duck Soup
Players gives you a better insight and understanding of our
organization. |
