Bottom line... Was it worth it? Considering the
tremendous amount of work for the amount we earned, and the
extraordinary dampness of the venue which caused much, much
more work to correct mold and rust issues afterwards, a flat
NO is the answer.
However, there were some bright spots to be sure:
• The size of audiences increased toward the end of the
run... due to word of mouth.
• The audiences loved the show.
• Many, many compliments on a family-friendly production.
• Lots of folks wanted to know when we would be back.
• Some people came back to see the show a second time
bringing different friends along.
• It was a chance to introduce the Duck Soup Player’s
mission to a new group of individuals... Who knows whether
this will lead to new supporters. (A few audience members
made additional contributions after the show.)
Would we do it again? ... Depends... But most certainly
never again in the summer. (I think we all had mold growing
on us by the end.) The restaurant certainly wants us back.
We’ll have to think long and hard about that.
One point of frustration was publicity. The Stillwater
Gazette did a great job for us, but the St. Paul Pioneer
Press and Minneapolis Star Tribune newspapers wouldn’t even
include us in there events calendar!
We’ll keep you posted. In the meantime, it’s back to our
mission! |
